Last Wednesday, CommGap representative Mai Nou Lor participated in the 18th annual International Health Literacy Conference hosted by the Institute for Healthcare Advancement in Orange County, California. According to the IHA, the yearly, three-day conference “draws participants from around the world to discuss practical health literacy solutions.” Speaker topics ranged from patient engagement and health literacy for the mentally ill to legal requirements and organizational barriers in health literacy. As a company with an emphasis on medical interpretation, the conference provided CommGap unique perspectives on the challenges often encountered in the medical field due to breakdowns in communication and health literacy which might be avoided through properly certified and qualified interpreters. CommGap issued a statement which said that they were “honored” to have been selected to attend the national conference and offer their services to the healthcare industry.
